Frequently Asked Questions

Do middle school and high school teens attend the same events?
No. All events are designed either specifically for high school age patrons, or 7th & 8th grade patrons. Unless clearly specified as an all age event, we do not mix the age groups at special events. Teens are asked to bring either a current school photo I.D. or a note from a parent to each event.

Does the Teen Center Have a dress code?
Yes. The Teen Center has a dress code, and code of conduct which all teens must abide by when attending any function at our facility, or at a satellite location.
The complete dress code & code of conduct can be found here - COMING SOON!

Is there a fee to come to the Teen Center?
We do not charge, or require registration for drop-in recreation - that is general use of the facility when there is not a special event happening. We do charge for special events (typically $10), and for our special interest classes (typically $60 for an 8 week program meeting an hour a week).

Who pays for the Teen Center?
As a not-for-profit governmental agency, we are funded by the City of Thousand Oaks, and administered by the Conejo Recreation & Park District.

Who is Alex Fiore?
Alex Fiore was a city council member for 30 years, and mayor of Thousand Oaks 6 times. He was part of the city's incorporation process, and helped create the general plan. Mr. Fiore was always interested in the youth of the community, and in the mid 80's created a committee to find out what teens in the area would like to have in their community. The Teen Center opened in 1989 as the Thousand Oaks Teen Center. Then in 2001 the building was renamed Alex Fiore Thousand Oaks Teen Center. He passed away less than a year later, but his legacy lives on through the places he helped to create.

No. Hundreds of teens come here daily, and can come and go at their leisure.
